Day one

Well we're at the end of day one and so far so good! Am feeling great but very aware that it's only early days!! I'm sitting on the edge of the beautiful Mekong river with a fabulous view to Laos. Just had a walk through the town where they obviously don't get many tourists but really interesting to walk through markets which aren't geared toward tourists! As usual they're so happy to see us! Riding along today the thai's waved and smiled and called out greetings the whole way!! I even overtook an elephant! Rice fields, water buffalo, tuk tuk's (google it!), and market stalls by the road. One of the guys is riding a tandem bike to share with Kuhn Thiew (who is the lady who has been running the orphanage in yasathon for the past 24 years! And is sadly very unwell with cancer). They are doing great so I figure I have no right to complain about a sore butt!! (or anything at all).......

Great fun having riding companions though, chatted the whole way to everyone at different times. Thanks for all the messages, it's so fabulous to have your support! xo

  2. ey kerrie, an excellent start to the ride but sad news about Thiew isnt well again who from reading peters book has been doing so well, more so its amazing that she still wants to ride this year. She is inspiration alone. Hope you an renee and doing well with all your creams, lotions and bike seat!! I want a pic of you in your riding gear. Not sure how the weather is going to effect you but ther forcast for parts of thailand its good so be safe. Is it good karma to ride faster than an elephant? Ha just had funny thoughts of avoiding massive elephant poo on the road, that would be ugly riding through one of those.

  3. Yes ju, Thiew is definately an inspiration! She always has a smile on her face, never complains and is just lovely! She is dressed in so many warm clothes and I keep asking her if she's hot but she just smiles and says no my body is cold..... Daniel is doing an amazing job riding with her, and will then also do the next ride from Bangkok to Khao lak! That's 1600 Kms in 16 days! Peter and tony are also doing both rides, so between Thiew and those guys I have told everyone to kick me if I so much as complain about a sore toe!! Daniel said that he and Thiew have spent the day working out a communication system to work the tandem bike and she has been saying to him that it's a bit like hands and home hug (her orphanage) working together to help each other, both must work to be able to achieve what they have to......... What amazing people to be amongst....

  6. Perhaps I shouldn't have - but I did laugh loudly while reading Juanitas tip on the elephnat poo! Hope the bikes have spokey dokeys AND mud guards. Is there a cream for Elephant Poo Inhalation?? If there is, Im sure between you and Renee and your collection of stuff, you will have it covered..... =]
